On October 21st, we had our fourth annual concert in which the students showcased their musical and theatrical talents in light of the concert’s theme Dream Again. We are so grateful to report that the concert was fabulous, for sure, the best one yet! Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and over 700 people from the greater community filled The Manuel Bonilla Theatre in downtown Tegucigalpa.
Our student band opened the concert with 5 contemporary Praise songs. They rocked the house! Their passion, confidence, and joy overflowed in that their as a fragrant offering to our God! Later one of the 6th grade pianists shared in our Children’s Worship time that he had the best time ever playing the piano and “I wasn’t doing it for my own glory. I did it for the glory of God!”
The professional set, costumes, songs, dramas, dances, and ensembles were truly that of a Professional Musical Academy! Some have suggested the student band should go on tour! One of our 4th graders in the drama depicting scenes from the life of Joseph shared, “I never thought I would be able to act on stage, but I did!” A 6th grade girl explained that being in the dance group was the best of her 6th grade year and she was so thankful to have been able to do it!
Newspapers journalists and photographers, radio stations, and several TV channels promoted the event! You see, a music and fine arts event of this caliber is a rare thing for an elementary school anywhere in the country, let alone a school for at-risk kids in a high crime, mostly forgotten, disadvantaged neighborhood! The Lord pours out his gifts and talents on all his children and when kids, even the most disadvantaged kids, are given the opportunity to develop these gifts, they glorify our Creator, and are restoring hope into the community and the country at large!
